Profile of Speaker:
Dr.Shyamsunder Mandayam has a professional career spanning 36 years in the area of R&D in NDE. Most recently he was the Principal Scientist at GE Research, Bangalore for 20+ years driving innovation, vision and the roadmap for advanced NDE and building synergies between NDE, Digital transformation and Robotics for improved asset management, structural integrity, damage detection, and life extension for the aerospace, power, renewables and oil & gas industries. His passion for Incubating advanced technologies to solve challenging industrial problems led him to work on several cutting edge technologies like Array sensors, Nonlinear ultrasound, positron annihilation, acoustic pulse reflectometry,microwave and Terahertz NDE and several others for metals, composites and ceramics. Prior to GE, he worked for 16 years at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Kalpakkam as a Senior Scientist developing advanced inspection technologies for PHWRs and FBRs. He has a Bachelors in Metallurgy from MS University, Vadodara and a Ph.D in Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. He has 10 US patents, 150+ publications, 50+ invited talks to his credit. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a TRIZ Level 3 expert (theory of inventive problem solving). He also is a certified ASNT Level 3 in eddy current and magnetic particle testing. He is a recipient of several awards including the NAtional NDT Award in R&D by ISNT in 1999, the GE India JRD Tata award of excellence for building reputation in 2010 and the GE Whitney team award in 2016. In recognition of his service to the NDT community, he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of ISNT in December 2019. He is currently the Chairman, National Certification Board of ISNT driving the NDT certification activities in India.
